Our Mission

Capoeira Mandinga is the name of a capoeira group that has existed in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1984, when Mestre Marcelo Pereira started it under the name of Senzala Grande (The name was changed in 1995). Nowadays, Capoeira Mandinga lineage represents one of the most elite schools in the capoeira world. Nevertheless, our students are taught to respect and appreciate all different styles and schools, and our system is a mixture of all methods. We incorporate into the trainings various aspects of capoeira Regional, Angola, Miudinho, Contemporânea, and our own style, capoeira Maneira, which emphasizes body expression with capoeira-related movements. We are committed to quality and constantly research capoeira in order to present it to our students at its highest level.

Our global aims and functions focus on four main areas:

Awareness and Education. We spread awareness of capoeira through a compelling campaign stressing the need for the art form as a comprehensive body and mind program.

Health and Wellness. Practicing capoeira promotes health and fitness by increasing flexibility, strength, and improving cardiovascular function.

Coaching and Relationships. Actively building student/teacher camaraderie and coaching and mentoring youth through classes, events, and personal interaction.

Fundrasing and Community. Capoeira Mandinga aims to raise funds for its activities through building public awareness of the benefits of the art form in the local community.
